Hardys Bay is a beach and bay side village located on the East Coast of Australia.  The original mud brick home consisted of 1 bedroom, a loft space, 1 bathroom, a main living space, a kitchen, a laundry and a dining area.  The "before" shot is shown below.

Although the client appreciated the warm mud brick aesthetic the house was in poor repair and so it was decided to renovate and extend the existing building. The house required a new kitchen and an addition with an extra bedroom, en-suite and sunroom/laundry.

Determining what the client needs and likes aesthetically requires a great deal of thought, as does determining what is practical and complimentary to the existing building. It was decided that a very modern addition would work best, taking into consideration the low lying and heavily wooded landscape surrounding the site.

The home now consists of 3 bedrooms, 1 living space, a dining area, loft space, kitchen, 2 bathrooms and sunroom/laundry (doubling as a reading/sleeping space).  The renovation has been appropriately updated and the addition provides for much needed space for guests and family.
