Plant description

abelia x grandiflora abelia variegata 2

abelia x grandiflora abelia variegata 1

Abelia x grandiflora 'Variegata' is a delightful variety of the hardy old favourite Abelia. It has green leaves with broad white edges, and the new growth is pink under the right conditions, making it a colourful garden addition year round. It naturally grows with a rounded habit and has masses of small white flowers in spring, summer and autumn which are butterfly attracting. It grows to around a metre high and wide, making it a good informal hedging plant. It can also be trimmed to shape for a more formal look. Grow in full sun to part shade, and is best in well drained soil. Feed in spring with a handful of complete fertiliser.
