Plant description

Amaranthus tricolor is a half hardy foliage plant with brilliantly coloured leaves of reds, greens, yellows and oranges. It is an annual, and should be planted in late winter to spring. Like a rich and moist soil. Good in tropical to temperate climates. Plant in full sun to partial shade. Feed with a good all purpose fertiliser. The leaves are edible, and can be eaten in salads or steamed as a vegetable, but be aware that they are high in oxalic acid so should be eaten in moderation.
