Callistemon viminalis 'Better John' is a compact shrub with deep red bottlebrush flowers in spring, and lovely blue green foliage. The new leaves in spring are covered with fine hairs, giving a silvery effect. This cultivar is an improved version of the popular dwarf 'Little John', and is faster and easier growing, and improved foliage colour.
'Better John' suits sandy to well drained soils, and sunny to part shade spots. Great for a low hedge, massed plantings or a single garden plant, also good for a large container. Fertilise in spring with a good general purpose fertiliser. Prune lightly to shape if needed, though it will naturally maintain a compact and dense habit.
