Plant description

Cupressus torulosa, the Bhutan or Himalayan cypress, is a large evergreen  tree with yellow green foliage. It is a fast growing conifer, ultimately to around 30 metres tall and 10 metres wide, and is used as a privacy plant as it is dense growing. If left unpruned, it is best for large gardens, for street planting, parks, and will make a good windbreak tree. It can be clipped to around 3 metres tall, and it will form a dense hedge. It grows best in a cool to mild climate.

The Bhutan cypress can be kept in a large container for some years, making it a good potted live Christmas tree.

The timber is fine and straight grained, and is aromatic, and resistant to termites and insects.
