Plant description

Dietes irioides is a tough, clumping evergreen perennial plant with strappy leaves and iris-like white flowers with yellow and mauve centres. The blooms only last a day, but are produced for months in spring and summer. A very easy care plant that grows in a wide range of conditions, and is resistant to pests and diseases. Fast growing, it will grow into a large, spreading clump quickly. It will self seed readily, so if volunteer seedlings are not desired, remove the seed heads before they ripen.

Dietes grows from a rhizome, propagation is by division. Seeds also germinate readily.

This plant is poisonous if ingetsed, and can also cause skin irritation.
