Plant description

Escallonia 'Hedge With An Edge' is a versatile, hardy and easy to grow evergreen shrub. It  has deep pink flowers in summer on attractive glossy green dense growing foliage. It makes a great low flowering hedge or topiary plant, as it responds well to pruning, producing a lush, tidy mat of foliage. It can also be grown as an informal hedge if left unpruned. It performs well in containers. Once established, it has a low water requirement. It is frost hardy and salt tolerant, and is troubled by few pests and diseases.

Escallonia likes a sunny position, and suits most soil types as long as the soil is free draining. Fertilise with a slow release fertiliser in spring. Pruning is best done after the summer flowering.

Escallonia is native to South America.
