Plant description
The hippeastrum is a bulbous plant with evergreen or deciduous leaves. It bears from 2-15 large, showy, trumpet shaped flowers, that come in a range of bright colours, often with contrasting markings. They are frost tender. They can be grown in large pots.
They prefer an open sunny position, but are adaptable to a wide range of soils and positions. Plant with the neck of the bulb just above the soil.
They have few pests and diseases. Too much water can cause root rot.
