Plant description

The Native Frangipani is one of the most useful Australian rainforest trees for gardens with its fragrant Frangipani-like flowers, glossy green leaves and disitinctive upright pyramidal shape. It grows well over a wide range of soils and climatic conditions and does surprisingly well in inland areas such as Mildura but it is important to protect seedlings from frost until they are a couple of metres tall. Generally, the Native Frangipani does not need pruning, in fact that can damage its symmetrical shape. However, if you have an old tree that needs rejuvenating it is possible to prune the tree back hard and then shape the subsequent regeneration. Use it as a feature tree near outdoor entertaining areas where the perfume can be enjoyed.
