Plant description

imperata cylindrica yalba

imperata cylindrica yalba(1)

Imperata cylindrical 'Yalba' is a native grass that bears masses of fluffy white plumes from April to August. It is a compact form with reddish winter foliage which contrasts nicely with the plumes. It is a good groundcover for areas that are contained by concrete borders, in an ordinary garden bed it can become invasive and spreading. This habit makes it perfect for roadsides and median strips where it will outcompete weeds. Water till established, and slash yearly in late summer to early autumn. Otherwise, it is a zero maintenance plant.
