Plant description

Spanish lavender is a perennial shrub with grey leaves and perfumed flowers. Low maintenance plants, apart from needing an occassional light prune, they make an excellent garden plant, container plant or for low hedging.

Drought tolerant, with few pests or diseases, though root rot can be a problem in waterlogged soil. They prefer full sun and excellent drainage. Lavender dislike high humidity, so in humid climates, maintain good air circulation around the plant.

Spanish lavender is native to the hot dry areas of Spain and Portugal. Extensive breeding work was done to increase the oil production for the cosmetics industry. Lavender oil has many useful properties. It is antiseptic and can be used to treat head lice. It is calming and good to ease headaches.
