Plant description

lepidozamia peroffskyana

Lepidozamia peroffskyana is a palm like cycad with large, spiky leaves which arise from a centre crown.  It is from eastern Australia, and is popular in landscaping, as it is an easy care plant with few pests and diseases. It is slow growing and drought and cold  tolerant. It prefers a dappled shade position. It is good as a garden specimen, as well as for containers.

The seeds contain toxic compounds which have caused fatalities to both people and livestock. The aborigines developed a method of  leaching the seed to remove the toxins.

Propagation is from seed which germinates easily.
