Plant description

Liriope is an evergreen, strappy leafed perennial plant, useful as a clumping groundcover and as a border plant. It is a hardy, easy care plant that has few pests and diseases, and is very adaptable to a wide range of conditions. Suitable for full sun to full shade. Likes a well drained soil, and will tolerate dry periods. Liriope gets spikes of small flowers in spring to summer. There are a range of cultivars, from dwarf to taller ones, and with variously coloured foliage. It is more cold tolerant than mondo grass. Liriope are salt tolerant, so are good for coastal areas as well as for poolside planting.

Propagation is by division of the clump.
