Plant description

Magnolia soulangeana 'Genie' is a deciduous very decorative small tree to large shrub, with large deep burgundy flowers which are borne before the new spring foliage. The buds are tulip shaped and red-black. 'Genie' is a smaller growing soulangeana magnolia to around 3 metres tall and 2 metres wide, with a columnar habit. It is a good feature plant, and is hardy once established. It likes a sunny position and prefers a rich, deep well drained soil. Mulch well to deter weed competition and to keep the soil moist and cool. It can be grown in a large container. The flowers have good frost tolerance.
