Melaleuca thymifolia is a terrific plant for low maintenance gardens, as it looks good with little care, and even better with some extra attention. It is a dense mounded shrub with small leaves and purple bottlebrush flowers that are produced sporadically all year. The intricate flowers attract various insects and birds to feed on the nectar. The shrub has small leaves and a compact habit, which makes it useful as a low growing hedge. Great for shrubberies or as a pot. Can take some frost and drought, and is rarely troubled by pests or disease. Grow in sun or part shade, and in most soil types.
