Plant description

Neoregelia x 'Hannibal Lecter' is a hybrid bromeliad with green leaves boldly striped and spotted with brown markings. It is a cross between Neoregelia punctatissima x carcharadon 'Tiger'. Brighter light, such as early morning sun, will deepen the colours, but full sun all day will burn the leaves.

Neoregelia are evergreen, epiphytic perennial plants with stiff, spiny leaves that grow in a rosette. They like indirect or dappled shade, and are not frost tolerant. Keep the centre cup topped up with water in the warmer months, and water sparingly in winter. They will grow in any soil mix, as they are epiphytic, meaning their roots are merely for support.

Propagation is from smaller offsets from the base, known as 'pups'. These can be gently pulled away and planted.
