Plant description

Pentas lanceolata is a decorative,woody, evergreen perennial or subshrub with clusters of long tubed, star shaped flowers.  The flowers come in a range of colours, from white, pink, purple to mauve, and they attract butterflies and moths to the nectar rich flowers. It has a long flowering season, from spring through to autumn. It grows to around a metre high and half a metre wide, but can be pruned to size, or if the plant becomes too open. 

Pentas is an easy care plant for a sunny to partially shaded position. The plant will tolerate light frosts. It can be cut back hard to rejuvenate the plant if needed. Once established it is a heat tolerant plant, but it does appreciate watering in dry weather. Feed with a slow release fertiliser in spring.

Propagation is by soft tip cuttings or from seed.
