Plant description

A great landscaping palm, which can grow to a formidable twenty metres in height, and is popular for its stately form and robust constitution. It is related to the palm that grows dates, but this one is grown as an ornamental, though the pulp surrounding the fruit is edible it is thin. It forms a thick and sturdy trunk topped by spikey leaves. Take care when pruning. Will withstand some frost but is best in warm temperate to Mediterranean climates. The sap can be used to make palm syrup.
