Plant description
Phoenix roebelenii, or the pygmy date palm, is a species of date palm native to southeastern Asia. It is a slow growing, slender, small tree that is a popular ornamental for temperate to tropical areas. It is an easy care plant, as it has few pests or diseases, is drought tolerant when established, and does well in most soils. It can be used as an understory plant in a tropical style garden, as a specimen plant, or in containers. The leaves are finely divided, and have sharp thorns at the base of the leaves.
