Plant description

Phormium tenax 'Flamin'' is an evergreen perennial plant. It is a clumping upright ornamental plant with leaves that appear to glow in sunlight with red, orange and bronze tones. Flamin’ is a good specimen plant, for massed plantings, and for tall borders of driveways etc. It is also a good container plant. It is a good contrast to other garden plants, with its bright foliage colour. 

Phormium is suited to a range of climates from the humid coast to the inland where it can handle the heavy winter frost and hot dry summers. It is an easy care plant, and is troubled by few pests or diseases. It grows well on a wide range of soil types. It is tolerant of dry periods once established.

The fibrous leaves can be used for weaving into baskets.
