Plant description

Salvia leucantha 'Santa Barbara' is a smaller and more compact variety of Mexican Sage. It is a tough and hardy herbaceous decorative perennial which has velvety purple flowers on silvery green foliage. It flowers from late sumer through autumn and into winter. It is drought tolerant when established, and is great for low maintenance gardens. It is frost tolerant. Suitable as a specimen plant, mass plant in drifts and for low hedges, also good for container growing.

This plant likes a sunny position in well drained soil, and suits most soil types. Feed in spring with a slow release fertiliser, and prune back old foliage stems once new growth appears at the crown.

Salvia leucantha comes from subtropical Mexico.
