Plant description

spirea japonica japanese spireae goldflame 1

Spireae japonica 'Goldflame' is a really hardy decidous shrub with colurful foliage and rounded dark pink flowers in summer. In spring the foliage starts off bronzed red, turns yellow then goes to green, which makes a lovely backdrop for the pink flowers. Low maintenance if needed, but extra care will pay dividends. Give it a sunny spot in well drained soil, feed in spring with a good fertiliser, and mulch to deter weeds. Looks good massed planted or for low hedging or in containers. Frost and dry tolerant.
