Plant description

Sprekelia, or the Jacobean lily, is an uncommon bulb that has a beautiful bright crimson flower from spring to summer. It is an easy care bulb that has few pests and diseases, and can be left to establish a hardy clump. It suits most soils and has minimal watering needs except for very dry times. They can be container grown, as well as being good for naturalising, as a cottage garden plant, and are good for cut flowers.

Propagation is by offsets from the parent bulb. Once a clump has formed, they can be dug in late autumn to winter, and the bulbs separated, dried and replanted in winter.
