Plant description

strelitzia reginae

strelitzia reginae bird of paradise

Strelitzia is a hardy perennial plant with curious flowers bearing a resemblance to a bird of paradise head. It has strap shaped greyish leaves borne on a large clumping plant. They flower for a long period, and the blooms make good, long lasting cut flowers. The plant makes a striking feature plant in the garden or a large container.

They are one of the toughest plants, growing in dry areas where others would fail, but also happy in moist, well drained conditions. They are rarely troubled by pests or diseases. They originate from South Africa.
