Plant description

Strobilanthes dyerianus is a soft perennial shrub grown for the beautifully coloured foliage. It has purple and green lush leaves, marked with iridescent silver colourings. It is best grown in sub-tropical to tropical climates, or as an annual or patio plant in cooler climates. It is an easy care plant, tolerating dryness, and is relatively pest free. It can be used as a specimen plant, for mass plantings, or as a container plant for indoors or outdoors. It gets mauve to purple flowers in autumn.

It is best grown in a sheltered position in part or full shade.  It is a naturally bushy plant, and tip pruning will ensure compactness. Very wet conditions can lead to root rot, and mites and aphids can sometimes occur.

Propagation is by tip cuttings, which readily root up.
