Plant description

syzygium australe pinnacle

syzygium australe pinnacle(1)

Syzygium austral 'Pinnacle' is a tall but narrow growing native shrub, with cream flowers followed by pink-red fruit. Growing to around 6-10 metres tall, but only 1 to 1.5 metres wide, it is perfect for narrow spaces. It can be pruned down to a couple of metres high if desired. The foliage is glossy green, new growth is attractive red-brown, and the plant naturally grows compact and dense. It can be used for topiary work as well as hedges and screening.

Syzygium grow in full sun to part shade, and will do well on sandy to clay soils. Prune yearly for a tidy hedge, or every couple of years for looser growth. It is susceptible to psyllid insect attack. The fruit is edible and can be made into jellies or jams.
