Plant description

Ulmus glabra 'Lutescens', golden elm, is a deciduous medium sized tree. It has eye catching golden foliage, and makes an lovely shade tree for larger gardens and parks. It grows to around ten metres tall, and twelve metres wide, and is adaptable to a wide range of conditions. It grows best in moist, well drained soils. The growth rate is moderately fast.

The tree is normally grafted onto a rootstock. If the rootstock sends out shoots, they should be removed so that they don't grow and overtake the golden foliage. Rootstock shoots can be indentified by their plain green colour.
