Plant description

The bold, broad foliage and climbing tendrils and the edible fruits of this vigorous climber make this one of the most widely planted climbers in the world. It is perfect for providing summer shade and winter sun and there are many different varieties that should be selected for the particular purpose you require. Wine varieties such as Shiraz and Chardonnay are household names while table grapes such as Sultana are equally well known.  Grapevines need a well drained soil but will grow quite happily even in poor rocky soils. They need a support to climb on and can be used effectively in gardens to shade courtyard areas for instance.
