Plant description
Yucca gloriosa is a hardy perennial from the agave family. It is a popular landscaping choice as it looks striking, and is low maintenance. It is hardy and has low water needs, and has few pests or diseases. It develops a thick multi stemmed base, and large sword shaped leaves. A good accent or feature plant, they can also be grown in large containers. Bears large panicles of white or cream flowers in summer to autumn. Good for coastal plantings as they resist salt spray.
Grow in full sun or partial shade. Tolerates extreme cold and heat. Likes a well drained soil. The plant can be cut back hard to encourage branching.
The fruit, seeds and flowering stems are all edible.
Propagation is from cuttings.
