Plant description

Zamia furfuraceae, the cardboard palm, is a hardy and popular cycad. A useful garden and landscaping plant, as well as a very easy care potted and indoor plant.  A distinctive cycad with thick felty leaves on a short, thick trunk, it grows to around 1.3 metres tall and 2 metres wide. It grows slowly when young, but faster as it ages. It resists salt  spray, making it a good choice for coastal and poolside plantings.

Zamia is an easy care plant, and will thrive in moist well drained soil. Likes both sun or shade, but not full shade. Fertilise with a liquid fertiliser occasionally.

Propagation is by seed, which is produced by the female plants. Germination is slow.

All parts of this plant are poisonous to humans and animals. Causes liver and kidney failure.
