Plant description

Calendula is a bushy annual or short lived perennial herb with large, bright cheerful flowers. They are an easy care plant that grows in a wide range of soils, and have a long flowering period, from spring to autumn. Good for garden beds or container growing. The flowers have medicinal properties, and can also be used in salads to add colour.

Calendulas are easy maintenance. Too much heat slows down their growth, so in hot areas they are best planted in autumn. Rich soil and full sun is optimum, but they will grow in most situations.

Calendulas are native to southern Europe. The egyptians valued it as a rejuvinating herb. It has anti-viral, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.
