Native orchids range from the spectacular epiphytic (growing on trees) and lithophytic (growing on rocks) species of the tropical jungles and warmer areas of Australia, to the intricately subtle terrestrial (growing in the ground) species found throughout the dry eucalypts forests throughout the continent.

Alyogyne hakeifolia 'Elle Maree' is a medium sized, evergreen shrub, with beautiful creamy yellow flowers with a contrasting red centre, and tough needle like foliage. It flowers in spring and summer, and is very tolerant of high temperatures. It grows to around 2 metres tall and wide.
Alyogyne is very drought tolerant. It prefers a full sun position, with well drained soil, and protection from strong winds. Prune after flowering to keep the plant compact.
