Plant description
Heleconium rostrata, the Hanging Lobster Claw, is a tropical perennial with stunning pendulous flower bracts. The flowers are red with green and yellow tips, and are produced mainly in summer. The flowers can last for months on the plant. It needs fertile, well drained soil and regular watering. They should not be allowed to dry right out, but overwatering can encourage root rot. It likes a full sun to part shaded position. The leaves will increase in size with more shade. It does best in tropical areas, but can be grown from the sub-tropics to temperate areas in a warm position. It can be grown in a large container.
