Plant description

Akane is an excellent low chill apple variety that can be grown in temperate and subtropical areas. Developed in Japan in 1937, it is an impecable heritage apple. A cross between Jonathan and Worcester Permain, this attractive apple has a refreshing flavour reminiscent of a Jonathan. It is a good eating variety, harvest time is February to March.

Good pollinators for Akane are Fuji, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and crabapples.
