Plant description

A useful herb, mint is a perennial ground covering plant. It comes in many different varieties, such as spearmint, peppermint, lemon mint, chocolate mint, and even an australian native mint. Fast growing in the right conditions, so it can provide lots of tasty leaves to be used in the kitchen.

Mint grows by wide spreading underground stolons, so may be best confined to pots so it doesn't spread too far in the garden. Leaves range in colours from dark green, grey/green to purples and variegated.

Mint thrives in cool moist spots in part shade. It can die down occasionally, but will regrow from the underground stolons.

In Greek mythology, mint is the herb of hospitality.
