Plant description
Mussaenda phillippica is an ornamental evergreen tropical shrub or subshrub that grows from 0.5 to 3 metres tall. It has small yellow flowers and large colourful sepals that make a bright display in summer in cooler areas, and year round in warmer climates. It grows in semi shaded to full sun positions, but it appreciates some protection from hot midday summer sun. It makes a good specimen plant in a frost free garden, and can also be used as a container plant. It likes a moist soil. Fertilise with a slow release fertiliser in spring.
