Plant description

Torenia fournieri, the wishbone flower, is a decorative annual plant with profuse flowering in a range of attractive colours, ranging from white, pink and mauve, through to dark purples. The flowers are bi-coloured and have contrasting yellow throats, and are borne from spring through summer. The plant habit is dense, mounding and groundcovering. It is suitable for container growing, hanging baskets, massed garden plantings and for borders.

Torenia likes warmth and humidity and a part shaded to shady position. Ensure the plant doesn't dry out in hot weather. Fertilise regularly through the warm months. Remove dead flowers and pinch the growing tips to keep the plant tidy if needed.

Propagation is from seed, division of the plant, and from cuttings, which readily root.
