Plant description

Canna lillies are large tropical and subtropical perennials with a rhizomatous rootstock. There are many ornamental cultivars that are grown in temperate to tropical areas for the tropical appearance of their broad leaves and bright flowers. There are varieties with brilliantly coloured leaves, others have large colourful flowers often with contrasting markings.They can be grown as specimen plants, as borders, poolside plantings and as container plants.

Cannas are easy care plants that have few pests and diseases. They grow well in most soils.

Propagation is by division or seed. Seed grown plants may not come true to the parent plant.
