Plant description

Justicia brandegeana, or the shrimp plant, is an ornamental small shrubby perennial plant grown for the decorative, unusual flowers. The actual flowers are small and white, but they are enclosed by large yellow bracts in a tall spike formation. The plant is best in warm frost free areas. It is a good feature plant for semi-shaded areas, and is also a good container plant. It makes a good indoor plant for bright areas. It is densely branched, and tip pruning every so often will ensure a more compact plant. Fertilise regularly through the warmer months to keep the plant looking at its best.

This plant is now known as Beloperone guttata.
