Plant description

Rotheca myricoides, also known as Clerodendron ugandense, the blue butterfly bush, is an evergreen shrub with masses of blue flowers that resemble butterflies. It is long flowering, from spring to summer and autumn, and the blooms are nectar rich and attract insects and birds. It is best in tropical to sub-tropical areas, and for warm sheltered positions in temperate climates.

Clerodendron likes a well drained soil. Water regularly. It is frost sensitive, but if frost causes the plant to die back, it can resprout from the base again. Responds well to pruning. Best in a sunny spot, can also do well in part shade.

Propagation is from tip cuttings.
