Plant description

Salix babylonica is a large deciduous tree with fabulously weeping foliage that can touch the ground. It grows from around ten to thirteen metres tall and is dense. It is well suited to wet areas as well as dry, but the root system is liable to become invasive, so it should not be planted close to sewers, drains or buildings. It is banned in some areas because of its potential to be invasive, but in the right area it makes a lovely shade tree with an iconic form. It is native to China.
