Plant description

Carpobrotus edulis, pigface or ice plant, is a ground covering succulent perennial plant with large daisy flowers. It is low maintenance and drought tolerant. It is a mat forming plant, and forms roots at the nodes. It likes a sunny position and well drained soils. Plants should not be over fertilised.

Propagation is by division or by cuttings.

The seeds are edible. The juice from the leaves is astringent and a mild antispetic, and can be used to relieve sore throats and eczema and itchy skin.
