Groundcovers are low growing plants and grasses that are typically used to cover an area of ground for erosion control, to suppress weeds or where, for aesthetic appearance, you might not want taller plants growing. Some produce masses of flowers, can be drought and frost tolerant and have been very successful in a wide variety of soils.
Great for slopes and over rocks, they can work for rockeries and in mass plantings, along roadsides while some are perfect as a retaining wall cover as well as in long lived & low maintenance gardens both in inland and coastal positions. As far as size goes groundcovers can begin from 10cm to 60cm high and from 80cm even up to 6m wide.
